“Yoga has meant many things to me over the years. At different times it has been a cherished hobby, a form of therapy, and a way of staying in shape. Now I would say it is my art. From the beginning I have noticed that as my yoga practice evolves, other profound changes occur in other parts of my life. Yoga has changed how I approach work, relationships, taking care of myself and making critical decisions. It is my life’s work to share the transformative power of yoga with other people and especially women.”
Julie first picked up a yoga book when she was 19. She was drawn to the shapes of the postures that reminded her of her many years in dance lessons. She attended Bikram yoga classes for two years, followed by two years of Ashtanga and then Iyengar yoga. Those schools all focus on discipline and precision. Eventually she was introduced to Vinyasa and Yin yoga, two styles that offer a more feminine, creative approach and prompted her to start teaching herself.
In 2013 Julie started teaching full-time and founded Neshama in 2018. Over the past decade she has followed 1000+ hours of training with senior teachers specialized in therapeutic yoga, spiritual growth, creative programming and holistic wellbeing. The studio program spans all of these elements, allowing students learn for themselves how yoga can serve as a catalyst for positive change in their lives.
In addition to yoga training, Julie also holds Bachelor of Fine Arts and a Master’s degree in Sociology.
Although serious by nature, Julie teaches with lightness. When you step into Neshama you will hear her very loud and contagious laugh!
Julie moved to Belgium in 2016. She lives in Kuringen with her partner and two daughters.
